San Antonio will try to set a Guinness World Record on June 18, when the city’s Parks and Recreation Department and water safety training organizations will join forces for the “World’s Largest Swimming Lesson.”
Swimming lessons will take place simultaneously at 10 a.m. at six area pools: Dellview, 500 Basswood Dr.; Heritage, 1423 Ellison Dr.; Lady Bird Johnson, 10700 Nacogdoches; Lincoln, 2803 E. Commerce; South Side Lions, 3100 Hiawatha; and Woodlawn, 221Alexander Ave.
The event was created to remind San Antonians of the importance of learning to swim safely. Drowning is preventable cause of death that especially affects children ages 1-14. Learning to swim and being aware of water safety is important during the summer months when families take to local pools and rivers for recreation.
Registration for the World’s Largest Swimming Lesson is being offered weekdays from 8 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. and on Saturdays from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. at the San Antonio Natatorium, 1430 W. Cesar Chavez, or at one of the participating pools on the day of the event.
